Comprehensive autism & ADHD evaluations

A multi-session, physician-led evaluation for children, teens, and adults, ages 6 to 60, built to answer the question carefully rather than quickly. Evaluation requests are reviewed for fit before scheduling.

What’s included

Thorough, by design

An evaluation here unfolds over several sessions. What it covers is shaped by the question you bring. These are the parts you can expect.

A detailed developmental interview

For children and teens, unhurried time with parents and caregivers about the story so far: early development, school, friendships, home. For adults, your own developmental history, with a family member or partner welcome to add their perspective if you wish.

Direct clinical assessment

Focused, unhurried time with the person being evaluated: conversation and careful observation, paced to the person, across more than one session when that gives a truer picture.

Your records, read closely

School reports, prior testing, medical records, notes from other clinicians. I read what you send before drawing any conclusions, so the evaluation builds on everything already known.

Standardized measures, as indicated

Rating scales and structured measures are used when they add clarity to your specific question, chosen clinically, not a fixed battery applied to everyone.

A written report

What I found, how I understand it, and what I recommend, in plain language you can actually use with schools, therapists, and other clinicians.

A feedback session

We sit down together and go through the findings: what they mean, what they don’t, and what makes sense next, with real time for your questions.

Physician-led

Evaluated by the doctor who can also treat

Evaluations here are led start to finish by a physician. I’m a double board-certified child, adolescent & adult psychiatrist, fellowship-trained in autism at Massachusetts General Hospital, and I conduct every part of the evaluation myself.

That matters in two ways. First, questions rarely arrive alone: sleep, mood, attention, anxiety, and physical health all shape the picture. A physician-led evaluation can take up those co-occurring medical and psychiatric questions within the same process, instead of leaving them for someone else later.

Second, unlike testing-only services, an evaluation here doesn’t have to end at a report. If treatment makes sense afterward, the doctor who evaluated you can be the doctor who treats you. And if it doesn’t, or you’d rather continue elsewhere, the report is written to travel with you. There’s no obligation to continue care.

Format

By video, in person, or both

Much of an evaluation translates well to video: interviews, history-taking, records review, and feedback often work well from your own home, where children in particular tend to be more themselves.

Some evaluations, though, require in-person components. Age, presentation, and complexity all matter, and I’d rather tell you honestly at the start than force a format. When I review your request, I’ll advise whether a telehealth-based evaluation is clinically appropriate for your specific situation, and if parts of it should happen in person, we’ll plan for that. In-person appointments may be necessary depending on the case and the evaluation process.

Telehealth visits require you to be physically located in Massachusetts or Rhode Island at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place in Massachusetts.

Getting started

How an evaluation begins

Evaluations begin with the short inquiry form: who the evaluation is for and the question you’re bringing. Evaluation requests are reviewed for fit before scheduling, and if I’m not the right fit for what you need, I’ll say so and refer you well.

That’s why there’s no online booking for evaluations. Once fit is confirmed, we plan the process together: format, timing, and fees, confirmed in writing before anything is scheduled.

Replies within 3 business days · First appointments are 90 to 120 minutes, typically within 1 to 2 weeks · Weekday and some weekend availability
